The golden era of the 70s and the 80s would often be synonymous for bringing into life new outfits and style statements in to foray. The designs were innovative and very quickly touched the hearts of thousands of people. These years also saw an instant change in the fashion world. The advent of MTV into the public domain had created a radical change in various spheres like music industry and fashion. During those year everyone was trying to reinvent themselves to match the changing times. Such changes taken by people in them were hasty and unceremonious.
During 70s people used to wear tight upper wear with a loosely fitting bottom wear. This type of a style statement just interchanged in the 80s. Women began to wear bolder dresses with shoulder pads. Men started wearing full sleeve shirts made out of expensive fabric with baggy loose trousers which were tapered at the ankle. Earrings became a trend for men to wear. Hairstyles also took fast strides and included a lot of mousse which gave the impact of a shiny convoluted look. Colored and streaked hair came into trend. Men started to keep longer hair and some women kept shorter hair.
Jewellery encrusted with precious stones became a display of wealth and power. Women wore long odd earrings which sometimes didn't match each other. They often even wore single earrings. Fine silver and gold chains, punk style, neon colours in jewellery defined trends. Shape of the jewellery changed drastically. Digital watches with metal wristbands began popularising the starting of 80s but afterwards adults came back to dial watches. Teens still preferred the radiant colours of plastic watches. Watch faces had roman numerals. The status defining design was Movado in those days which featured a sleek watch with a dot at 12. Wearing two watches on the same arm became a trend. Gold bracelets and hoop earrings grew to become common in this time.
Designer bags manufactured from leather were also among the trend setters. Clutch bags captivated attention amongst people for being so firm and appressed. Stylish briefcases also sold very well. It was normal for women to match their shoe colour to their bags. Shawls in several variety & colours were worn on different events like in daytime with tank tops and at evening with gowns. Designer lingerie for women also made a part of the trend especially the ones with laces and coloured boxer shorts for men. Small metal framed eye glasses became popular towards 1984-85. A smaller rounder type stayed popular through the entire decade. The day to day life in that decade was highly impacted by fashion.
